Covid-19 Daily Cases Rising

You know it’s serious when technical analysis is being used to track COVID-19 cases. While the graph is by no means conclusive, it does show a death cross with a sharp breakout in the number of COVID-19 cases.

October 6th marks Malaysia being at the worst level of the Covid-19 pandemic with a record number of daily cases and 4 deaths including a 1-year old girl being the youngest known victim.

Covid-19 Daily Cases and Projections

(Source: Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia)

According to KKM/Tan Sri Noor Hisham Abdullah, R0 (Pronounced R naught) is currently at 1.86 which shows how contagious it is. R0 shows that the outbreak is growing with each infected person on average infecting 1.86 people.

If the infection rate (R0) worsens to 2.2, cases are expected to reach almost 5k daily by the end of October! If R0 is reduced slightly to 1.5, cases are expected to reach almost 1.5k daily. If R0 is reduced to 0.3, cases are expected to drop to less than 100 daily.

According to Malaysia’s PM Muhyiddin Yassin, no lockdown for now but TEMCO (Targeted Enhanced MCO) will be implemented in areas with high number of cases.

“If we implement (MCO) again, it can lead to huge effects which we worry could lead to a collapse of our social and economic systems.”

Stay safe, keep your masks on, and let’s flatten the curve.
