Malaysia’s Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced the Perlindungan Ekonomi dan Rakyat (Permai) assistance package totalling RM15billion on January 18, 2021 at 4:00pm

Yesterday (January 18), Malaysia’s Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin announced the Permai assistance package worth RM15 billion with a total of 22 initiatives. These initiatives aimed to:

  • Combat the Covid-19 outbreak
  • Safeguarding the welfare of the people
  • Supporting the business community

When the daily cases of Covid-19 in Malaysia increases to 3,000 cases, the Federal Territories and 6 states have been placed under the movement control order (MCO 2.0) to reduce the rate of infections.

Assistance for Health Ministry

  • A one-off payment of RM500 for all medical frontliners, with RM300 to be given in the first quarter of 2021
  • New 3,500 health workers recruitments worth RM150million
  • RM3billion for the Covid-19 National Immunisation Programme
  • RM800million for supplies including screening kits, additional reagents and PPE equipments

Program Subsidi Upah (Wage Subsidy Program)

  • Wage subsidy program 3.0 under the Social Security Organisation (Socso) will be enhanced for all employers operating in the MCO states, no matter which sector
  • Eligible employers will receive a wage subsidy of RM600 for each employees earns less than RM4,000 with up to a maximum of 500 employees in one company only.

  • RM24million for delivery riders to fund the full contribution under Socso’s Self Employment Social Security Scheme

Geran Khas Prihatin (Prihatin Special Grant)

  • Assistance of RM1,000 each for 500,000 SMEs in the 7 MCO states and RM500 each for 300,000 SMEs in other states.

Personal Tax Relief

  • Tax relief for medical examination to include Covid-19 screening
  • Tax exemptions worth RM2,500 for computers, handphones and tablets to be extended for another year until 31 December 2021
  • 100% sales tax exemption for locally made passenger motor vehicles until 30 June 2021
  • 50% sales tax exemption for imported passenger motor vehicles until 30 June 2021

Electricity Rebates & Free Internet Data

  • Reduction in electricity bills up to 9% for 6 months, from January to June 2021 for domestic and non-domestic users.
  • 10% discount for electricity bills to 6 business sectors including theme parks, convention centres, local airlines offices, travel and tour agencies as well as hotel operators
  • 1GB free internet data initiative extended to 30 April 2021

Flood & Disaster Victims Assistance

  • RM25million under the Government Linked Investment Company (GLIC) or Government Linked Company (GLC) Disaster Relief Network which includes community assistance, to the elderly, homeless, the disabled and flood victims
  • Three-month PTPTN loan repayment moratorium application for PTPTN borrowers. Application can be made until 31 March at the official PTPTN website (www.ptptn.gov.my/PelanjutanBayaranBalikCovid19/)
