When does a will take effect?
In Malaysia, a will basically takes effect immediately after it’s properly written out & signed by two (2) witnesses. You can have the will prepared by a will-writing company, a lawyer or even yourself.
What about if it’s a “soldier’s will”?
Technically you would be likely referring to a privileged will for soldiers, airmen & sailors. Basically it is an informal will which remains valid even though it does not fulfill the usual legal requirements for those in active military service. It can be written or oral. And it expires 1 month after the testator (will writer) is entitled to make a privileged will.
